Painted Breath

Put on your flying boots

Let down your raven hair

Grace will sweep you off your feet

Faith is all you really need

Painted breath will blow away

The valley’s cryptic veil

To reveal forgiving eyes

That embrace this human race

The nakedness of Divinity

The nakedness of divinity

Is a hard but tender tug

That draws the childishness

Out of us

Without apology

Simplicity is in agony

These days

But She breathes

A soulful breath

That sleighs the beast

And sets me free

Heavenly Rain

Pain digs the hole

For the well to grow deep

Love is the water

The big-hearted keep

Ladles and spoons

Are the kind ones’ two hands

That let drink the needy

All that they can

Compassion is given

To hearts open wide

That feel others’ pain

And let them inside

But forget not one’s own well

Dug deep with the pain

Is fed by the good mother’s

Heavenly rain

She Is a Wild One

She opened up

Her sleepy lungs

Let out a howl

Stepped off the rungs

The ladder blew away

In streams

The answers came

Within her dreams

She is a wild one

Through and through

A child of God

The morning dew

She found her voice

Within the dark

And held onto

That willful spark

She took them back

The gold and rain

She strung the pearls

And rose again

She is a wild one

Through and through

A child of God

The morning dew

The Fire’s Still Burning

It’s the depth of her sorrow

The pain in her angst

The glow in her smile

The miles in her gaze

She comes through the fire

Stripped to the bone

The waves wash her clean

As her bones turn to stone

The fire’s still burning

It will never turn cold

As the earth spins around

And turns lead to gold

The fawn faced the ghosts

Kept the shadows at bay

With the warmth of her heart

And her strong peaceful way

To Return Home

I came to kiss

The golden ground

That waits beneath

The willow tree

A weeping willow

Limbs outstretched

That rest upon

Her Mother’s breast

So long the road

I’ve danced along

To find this place

To return home

A Virgin Birth

I found a rock

deep in the ground

As striking as

the sirens’ sound

Both black and white

Like day and night

It shines and spins

Before my eyes

I take it in

And build a hearth

A fire starts

A virgin birth

A child with those shining eyes

Speaks through me now

Like angels fly

Never seen

But always there

Forever in my

Loving care

The paradox of the pendulum

The pendulum sings

Of earthly things

That bring you

Toward the center

But body and spirit

Slide back and forth

Like night and day

A lover’s course

The Grace of God Is Just a Test

The heat finally got to me

Way out here in Tennessee

I finally came to understand

That peace of mind ain’t free

I’ve got a heart of gold

And a troubled mind

That drapes my past

Before my eyes

When will I realize

It’s simply time to cut the ties

When will the medicine take

To pardon me from my mistakes

The grace of God is just a test

Until my eyes remain awake

I’ve got a heart of gold

And a troubled mind

That drapes my past

Before my eyes

When will I realize

It’s simply time to cut the ties

I packed my bags

And moved up north

Into the woods

A quiet forest

I cooked the lead

And made it wet

The grace of God

Is just a test

I’ve got a heart of gold

And a troubled mind

That drapes my past

Before my eyes

When will I realize

It’s simply time to cut the ties
