When the demons came knocking
The door was open wide
They poured water on the fire
That had been burning bright
The shadows dancing on the wall
Fell back asleep too soon
Their stories faded like the light
On the eve of a new moon
The smoke that rose up to the sky
Disappeared into the night
But it left behind a withered rose
With stem of green and petals white
As we sang our song aloud
Your warm hand held in mine
The rose drank in the melody
And our lips took in the wine
Its petals turned from white to red
And opened up in turn
A scent so sweet to keep us there
As the fire began to burn
