Two Black Cats and a Wishing Well

Two black cats and a wishing well

In a boat washed out to sea

Their eyes sweep by and catch my eye

And I can't go back to sleep

Anchored deep into the night

I watch as time unwinds

Stars that never reached for me

Fall naked from the sky

A glimpse, a breath, a moment here

My mind spills open wide

Fingers trace a fragile map

Of constellations in the sky

Release is such a simple thing

Though the ribbon must be tight

Light both ends, the blindfold burns

And disappears from sight

The children seem to notice me

In broken homes and crowded streets

Big bright eyes scream honestly

Tell me true, will I be free?

Release is such a simple thing

Though the ribbon must be tight

Light both ends, the blindfold burns

And disappears from sight

Freedom comes and freedom goes

Sure as morning turns to night

The moon and dreams sing silently

So keep them in your sight

The stars will be your fondest friends

When you close both your eyes

Don't ever fear a thing, my dear

When you stare deep inside

Release is such a simple thing

Though the ribbon must be tight

Light both ends, the blindfold burns

And disappears from sight
